English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
Course Aim:
This program is designed to improve English language skills and academic study techniques for students to gain entry to and then do well at an English speaking university.
Levels:
Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced Levels
Duration:
10-12 weeks for each level
Pre-requisites:
Students are required to have an Upper Intermediate Level of English proficiency or are to have achieved or be approaching an IELTS Band grade of 5.0 or greater.
Course Aim:
This program is designed to improve English language skills and academic study techniques for students to gain entry to and then do well at an English speaking university.
Course Work:
The EAP course is designed to prepare students for studying in an English-speaking institution. Skills developed include: listening and note-taking, seminar presentation and discussion skills, speed-reading, academic writing, library and internet use, university level vocabulary, preparation for English proficiency examination, academic culture of Australian university, research techniques, critical thinking and essay writing.
Assessment:
Students are required to have an Upper Intermediate Level of English or IELTS score of at least 5.0 prior to undertaking EAP. Continuous assessment is conducted through the course.
Completion:
On completion of their EAP course, our students are awarded a certificate which grades their language level in the four key language skills as well as their classroom performance. The grades relate to detailed descriptors explaining the student’s capabilities and learning needs.
FACE TO FACE
Further Study:
Students who successfully complete the higher two levels of EAP will be able to pursue vocational training or undergraduate university courses.
